Fourth running (tied far behind for third in some surveys) Mar Roxas exploded a PhilHealth bomb in the third Presidential Debate but the bomb exploded in his face when front runner Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte retorted with the famous line “If the Filipino people believe you, how come you are trailing far behind in the surveys?”. Now we have a bank account issue, obviously exposed to influence undecided voters or “soft” voters for Digong who may still be prone to change their minds. Survey KULELAT Mar Roxas had only one goal in the Third Presidential Debate and that was to pin down front-runner Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and deal Digong a MORTAL BLOW. Mayor Duterte, on the other hand, knew that all he had to do was to avoid another POLITICALLY INCORRECT statement (Pope insult, rape joke) and he could coast along for an electoral VICTORY on May 9, 2016. Two hours into the debate, there were NO FIREWORKS. In boxing, the contest turned into a sparring match with few hard blows and no serious injuries caused on any of the participants. BORING. Totally BORING. Then the health issue was discussed with an obviously well prepared Mar Roxas boasting of the Aquino Administration gains in hospital benefits. Duterte was not impressed and said Davao City requested for medical assistance with none received. Roxas became livid and said that he had a computer printout of Davao residents who availed of the PhilHealth program, with the lists including names, diagnoses and servicing hospitals. Mayor Duterte again downplayed the national government’s role in health care. Roxas then challenged Digong, insisting that the Mayor WITHDRAW from the Presidential race if the former Senator and DILG Secretary could produce the documents in the first hour of the next working day. Digong again thumbed down the Mar story of health care achievements. Secretary Roxas then said that it was so typical of Digong to deride issues rather than to confront the facts (as evidenced by the Mar PhilHealth list). In a situation where both sides have diametrically opposed stands, then both speakers could not be correct. Mayor Duterte then turned to the crowd and said if the nation really believed the Mar picture of the national PROGRESS and DEVELOPMENT, then how come Mar Roxas lagged FAR BEHIND in the surveys.

Analysis: The PHP 93 BILLION PhilHealth payouts for 2015 could be true. But for Mar to say that there is no more balance billing or out-of-pocket payments by patients is still far from the majority of hospital admissions. Government hospital pharmacies are also sorely lacking in medical supplies and medicines so the non-availability of those things still force patients or their relatives to buy the same in nearby drugstores at the expense of the patients. So while there may have been improvements in health coverage and payment allocations, the national health insurance implementation is still INADEQUATE at best. Cities such as Davao (where Duterte is mayor) and Makati (where Presidential candidate Jejomar Binay was mayor before he became Vice President) are more able to address the issue of universal health care proving affordable (or no cost), available, acceptable and accessible medical and hospital benefits. If the results of the post-debate surveys are to be believed, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s realistic analysis of the health situation is closer to the truth than the IDEAL presentation that Mar Roxas gave. The people have spoken. All that is needed now is a RESOUNDING DUTERTE VICTORY two weeks from today.

Since Mayor Duterte swept ALL three presidential debates and since he is leading comfortably in ALL political surveys, Mar Roxas may have lost the chance to catch up. Remember that if Mar Roxas inches up a bit (in future surveys) he still has to contend with second running Senator Grace Poe and third placer (in political surveys, not in the debate surveys) Vice President Binay.

Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte would be the next Philippine President, winning by 4 million votes, as predicted by Google, Facebook and 7 – 11 convenience stores.

It is all over but the counting. Duterte will get 38% of the total votes cast with 14 million votes. Grace Poe will settle for second with 10 million votes representing 27%. Vice President Binay will get 6 million votes representing 17% while perpetual poll survey tail-ender Mar Roxas will get 5 million votes and 15%.

The results would put traditional survey firms to shame since they predict on the basis of small sample sizes (1,200 or 1,800 or 2,400 or 4,000 or 5,200) and justifying their results because of their use of scientific methods. However, in the age of the Internet and social media, resorting to tiny sample sizes would inevitably lead to less than accurate predictions. The way to go should be to compile data the way Google, Facebook and, in a less precise way, 7 – 11, generate huge numbers. The so-called advantage of the traditional polling is its methodology of choosing respondents but this system falls flat on its face due to extremely small sample sizes (in the few thousands). Gathering data from MILLIONS of people will obviously increase the ACCURACY of the projected election results. None of the STUPID plus or minus 2% blah blah which effectively puts survey results in the STATISTICAL TIE territory whenever candidates are bunched up and within striking distance of each other. When MILLIONS of respondents are polled, the plus or minus margin of error is reduced to an INSIGNIFICANT number, thus there will be no epidemic of STATISTICAL TIES which is our common fare (until Duterte pulled away).

Actually, we should attribute more intelligence to our candidates. Grace Poe said “habang may buhay, may pagasa” (there is hope as long as one is still alive). That comment does not exude a great chance at victory. At its best, it means that she knows that she is behind and must work double time to catch up. VP Binay said he would win by 4 million votes. Obviously he has access to a wider network of troops on the ground who are in a better position to assess the national pulse. In truth, he is in the know that the 2016 Presidential election WINNER would win by 4 MILLION votes. He just twisted the story a little bit to make it appear as if HE would be the winner when DEEP IN HIS HEART, he already knows that VICTORY will not be his. He deliberately presented a different winner (himself) so as not to DEMORALIZE his supporters. Conceding DEFEAT at this early stage would PANIC his campaign since it would be everyone to himself (jumping ship time, junking season). Mar Roxas, on the other hand, was already THANKING his supporters at Club Filipino. Detractors said it was a LOYALTY CHECK but it looked more like a LAST HURRAH, giving it the good old Ateneo High School ONE BIG FIGHT ( Win or lose, this the school we choose). It was Mar’s way of saying that there is still (political) life after two consecutive DEFEATS (for VP in 2010 and  an impending one for President in 2016). In a public statement, Presidential candidate Mar Roxas stated that he would be the Flavor of the Month in May 2016 (meaning he will FINALLY win, not just a survey but the election) which could mean he is banking on a MIRACLE (of the Hocus PCOS type?) or related DIVINE INTERVENTION of the Deus ex machina type (this phrase was taken up in his Ateneo High School Second Year English Literature class). In other words, Mar Roxas insiders already know the score which is why they are holding back the release of funds. Anyway, less than 20 days before the elections, this blog is already CALLING the LANDSLIDE winner and that is Davao City Mayor Duterte. CHANGE IS COMING. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Bold Prediction: Duterte to win the Presidency

Mayor Duterte (32%) now has a 7% lead against Senator Grace Poe (25%). Barring ANOTHER self-inflicted public relations disaster of the Pope insult and rape comment types, the Davao City Mayor should now consolidate his forces since the Presidency is now HIS TO LOSE, meaning only a MAJOR FUMBLE can deny him a Palace stay.

Presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is now FIRMLY in the LEAD in all three major survey firms (SWS, Pulse Asia and Laylo) and he is now pulling away from former front runner Senator Grace Poe. Social media is now credited for his PHENOMENAL RISE and SUCCESS. Significantly, Senator Grace Poe, Vice President Jejomar Binay and Liberal Party standard bearer former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas basically IGNORED campaigning through the Internet (predominantly Facebook). The obvious reason is that they have so much cash that they can pour on mainstream media (radio, TV and newspapers. In the Fcaebook front, all three Duterte opponents make use of the term BOOST (sponsored post or paid advertisement) to get their message across while the RESOURCE DEFICIENT Duterte campaign relies heavily on a pool of volunteers (mostly self-appointed) to spread the Digong version of the Gospel (with apologies to the Pope).

Now it can be told. Among the many parallel groups supporting the Presidential bid of the Davao City Mayor is the low profile, and definitely CASH STRAPPED Metro Manila Duterte Movement (MMDM) which has been appointed by the Davao City/Mindanao group called Mayor Rody Roa Duterte National Executive and Coordinating Council (MRRD NECC) as its chapter organization in the National Capital Region. MMDM is so DIRT POOR that it can not even provide volunteer identification cards, stickers, bollers, wall posters, calendars, tarps and streamers. The only propaganda materials they never seem to run out of are single sheet (4 pages when folded in the middle) comic “books” produced using low tech mimeo machines (sorry, no offset machine available). It goes without saying that contrary to the Mar Roxas full color editions flooding barangay halls, the MMDM comics only come out in black and white (in other words, single color).

However, the MMDM has 20 MILLION Facebook group members in its arsenal which explains why most Filipino Facebook account holders always seem to be inundated by Duterte campaign posters in their news feed, personal walls (shared by their FB friends) and favorite fan pages (either as admin posts or supporter comments). Since social media is actually more effective as a DEMOLITION TOOL, the use of the Duterte 20 MILLION FB group member platform commands a strong presence which has been used and can be used for focused or targeted responses (take note, Digong always wins a tit-for-tat exchange against Mar Roxas and Jojo Binay, mainly because there are more Digong supporters online ready to pounce on the VP and/or the former Senator). The Roxas, Binay and Poe sponsored posts mostly appear as contrived, stale and dated since they have to undergo lots of centralized office analysis in focus group discussions and they make use of photographs and posters that need time to prepare. Duterte posters are usually independent contributions made by individuals so that a number of times a day, a few of their products could achieve VIRAL status with everyone SHARING the informative, interesting, funny or INSULTING MEMES. Being fast on the gun (pardon the pun) in terms of a quick propaganda response gives Digong a real competitive advantage. Coupled with his 20 MILLION FB group members, Digong seems UNSTOPPABLE at this stage of the campaign.

Note: Facebook says there are 40 MILLION accounts from the Philippines. This means that MMDM alone has the eyes of half of the total Philippine FB accounts on any given day. Obviously there are lots of other Duterte organizations and unorganized supporters out there.

This survey was done AFTER the Supreme Court decision that voted favorably for Grace Poe to run after her natural born citizenship status and 10 year mandatory residency were questioned. Poe supporters were PROJECTING an estimated 10% UPWARD jump which did NOT materialize. Instead of Poe gaining percentage points, her POPULARITY is DECLINING (based on poll surveys) while Mayor Rodrigo Duterte  and Vice President Binay are gaining. These results are still too close to call with at least three candidates (Poe, Duterte and Binay) in a position to achieve victory. Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The presidential race has got even more intense as candidates kept tight margin from each other’s ratings.

Latest survey by The Standard conducted from February 24 to March 1 showed Sen. Grace Poe remains to be the frontrunner of the presidential race with 26 percent— but three points down from 29 percent in January.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte comes next with 24 percent, gaining most with four percentage points.

With a ±1.8 percent margin of error, however, Poe, Duterte, and Vice President Jejomar Binay with 23 percent are statistically tied for first place.

Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, in fourth place, technically ends up second with 22 percent. While, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago lags far behind from the other presidential candidates with two percent.

“With Poe getting slight declines in vote share, Duterte gaining some points, and Binay and Roxas maintaining their vote support­—the presidential race has become tighter,” said Junie Laylo, The Standard’s resident pollster.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), Poe and Binay took the lead with 28 percent in the same survey.  With a higher margin of error of ±6 percent in Metro Manila, Duterte is statistically tied with them at 23 percent.

The Standard Poll also revealed that across other major geographic areas, Poe and Binay are tied in North/Central Luzon with 34 percent and 33 percent respectively, with a margin of error of ±4 percent.

It also said that the two presidential candidates were tied in South Luzon/Bicol with Poe getting 32 percent and Binay with 27 percent.

According to the survey, Visayas continued to be Roxas’ bailiwick with 36 percent, while Duterte was the top choice of voters in Mindanao with a very high 49 percent.

By economic class, Poe lost her lead to Duterte among voters from Class A, B, and C. Poe’s ratings dropped from 30 percent in January to 21 percent in the latest survey, while Duterte’s increased from 27 percent in January to 30 percent.

“The campaign effect is kicking in and the race is expected to be very fluid given the upcoming debates and increased sorties of candidates,” Laylo added.

According to The Standard, the survey had 3,000 registered voters with biometrics as respondents, from 79 provinces across the country and 17 cities in NCR.
