Sarah Geronimo abusing her fans with too many product endorsement FB posts

11 out of 12 most recent posts are commercials – clothing, acne medication, pain reliever (3), toothpaste (2), canned food (2), vacuum cleaner and cheese

Sarah Geronimo is a top Philippine singer, dancer and movie actress. With a successful career spanning decades, she is one of the most recognizable celebrities in the country. With a loyal fan base, she is a force to reckon with when it comes to public voting for awards.

Sarah is known as the Pop Princess and her admirers are named Popsters.

In the realm of social media, she has 15 MILLION Facebook followers. Such a huge number is used to further make her known to the people. Fans being what they are want to see, hear and feel her presence so they eagerly await every new photograph or bit of news about her forthcoming songs, concerts, movies and TV appearances.

A major disappointment, however, is that her Facebook fan page looks more like an EDSA billboard where product endorsements dominate. Of course there is nothing illegal about placing too many advertisements. It is her personal fan page and she can post whatever she wants as long as the contents comply with the rules, regulations and policies of the internet platform. The problem is that fan page posts are distributed to the page followers through their newsfeed and commercial ads are, more often than not, irritating to the readers. A consistent, persistent and continuous avalanche of ads emanating from the same fan page can get into the nerves. While the UNFOLLOW option is always there, true fans would seldom do that for fear of missing out on the latest news and developments in the life of their idol.

We are thus ventilating this observation in the hope that more content about the life and career of Sarah be given more prominent space in her own fan page. Perhaps requesting for 50% Sarah photos at home, at work or at play and 50% Sarah endorsing commercial products would not be asking too much.
