SWS is conducting political surveys for a FEE. Survey results are used as a basis for decisions to run or not, evaluate chances of electoral victory and attract cash contributions for the campaign of specific individuals or political parties. The most important characteristic of a survey firm is CREDIBILITY, the public perception that the results truly reflect the thinking and preferences of the interviewed population and that the said interviewed group or groups represent a much larger segment of Philippine society, in this case, registered voters.

A big problem in survey firms is that its methods of conducting the polling may not necessarily reflect the views of the larger population that it is supposed to represent due to a very limited sample size (the answers of 1200, 1800, 2000 or 2400 people are extrapolated to be the views of millions of people). Survey firms claim to have SCIENTIFIC METHODS at the same time that competing firms may have conflicting results. Lately Social Weather Station made a survey wherein a total of three answers could be given by the interviewee. The only result of this would be to inflate the percentage figures of both Senator Poe and DILG Secretary Roxas because both of them belong to the same Aquino Administration Coalition. The results are therefore MISLEADING, CONFUSING, STUPID  and does not reflect the true sentiments of the Filipino electorate. Since survey results can generate a BANDWAGON effect, a FLAWED survey report can unduly improve the public perception of a candidate. If enough people are swayed to shift to the leading candidate then a self-fulfilling prophecy situation arises.

Then here comes Social Weather  Station where its most prominent official, Mahar Mangahas, is an UNCLE of Presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe. This is patently UNETHICAL and a CONFLICT of INTEREST. Mangahas should either take a leave of absence from SWS or resign. SWS should also announce to one and all that Mangahas is an UNCLE of Presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe.
