MG vehicles banned by Israel military due to cybersecurity and espionage concerns

BANNED by Israel military

Details of the situation:

  • Previous Use: The Israeli Ministry of Defense had acquired over 600 Chinese-made vehicles, including the MG ZS EV model, which were actively used as service cars for officers, some even near the Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv. The IDF also reportedly used an MG pickup truck for the security unit guarding the Kirya, the military headquarters.
  • Security Concerns: Citing warnings from cybersecurity experts, Israeli security agencies raised alarms that the built-in cameras, microphones, sensors, and communication systems in these vehicles could be used as “mobile intelligence platforms” to collect sensitive data and transmit it to servers in China.
  • Recall and Ban: In response to these fears, the IDF and the Israeli Ministry of Defense have implemented a ban on all Chinese-made vehicles from entering military bases and have started a large-scale recall of approximately 700 vehicles assigned to senior officers.
  • Mitigation Efforts: Prior to the full ban and recall, efforts were made to minimize risk by forcibly disabling the e-Call system (automatic emergency services communication feature) in the vehicles, but experts believed this was insufficient.
  • Replacement: The IDF is reportedly switching to a fleet of Japanese Mitsubishi vehicles as replacements.

In summary, MG vehicles were part of the IDF’s non-combat fleet, but they are being phased out due to national security concerns related to potential intelligence gathering by China.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) banned all Chinese-made vehicles, including MG models, from entering military bases and recalled those used by senior officers, due to cybersecurity and espionage concerns. The iconic British MG brand is now owned by the Chinese state-owned automotive giant SAIC Motor Corporation.

The IDF have used MG vehicles (specifically the Chinese-made MG ZS EV model) as official transport for officers, but have recently implemented a ban and recall of these and other Chinese-made cars from military bases and service due to espionage concerns.

Reasons for the Ban

  • Espionage Concerns: Israeli security agencies and cybersecurity experts warned that modern Chinese vehicles, which are essentially “computers on wheels,” are equipped with cameras, microphones, sensors, and GPS that could potentially collect sensitive information about personnel, locations, and movements and transmit data to servers in China.
  • Data Leaks: The primary concern is the potential for data leaks from the vehicles’ integrated communication and sensor systems, which could be exploited for intelligence gathering.
  • National Security Precedent: The decision follows similar actions by other countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, which have also banned Chinese-made vehicles from sensitive military or government sites.
  • Insufficient Mitigation: Even after attempts to disable certain features like the e-Call system (automatic emergency services communication), experts felt that the risk of information leakage was still high and could not be fully mitigated.

Scope of the Ban

  • Complete Prohibition: All active-duty officers and civilian employees who own Chinese vehicles are required to park them outside military installations.
  • Vehicle Recall: Approximately 700 vehicles, including the MG ZS EV and Chery Tiggo 8 models, which were previously assigned as official transport for senior officers, have been recalled from service.
  • New Guidelines: The IDF is drawing up new guidelines for vehicle procurement, and Chinese cars have been excluded from recent tenders for leased vehicles for officers.

Earthquake Risk: Barangays – NCR and Southern Tagalog Regions

List of Barangays Near the East and West Valley Fault

The Valley Fault System (VFS), an active fault in the Greater Metro Manila Area (GMMA), consists of two segments: the East Valley Fault (EVS) and the West Valley Fault (WVF).East Valley Fault

The EVF is about 10-km long and traverses the municipalities of Rodriguez and San Mateo in Rizal Province. This fault can generate an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 that may result to a very destructive ground shaking, with intensity VIII on the PHILVOCS Earthquake Intensity Scale (PEIS), in the epicentral area.

West Valley Fault

The WVF is approximately 100-km and transects portions of Quezon City, Marikina City, Pasig City, Makati City, Taguig City, Muntinlupa City, and the provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite. This fault can generate an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 that may result to a very destructive ground shaking, with intensity VIII on the PEIS, in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The fault, which has moved 4 times in the last 1,400 years, moves roughly every 400 years, according to Phivolcs Director Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr.

In case of a magnitude 7.2 earthquake from the West Valley the fault, 31,000 to 33,500 people could die, according to estimates based on previous studies conducted by PHIVOLCS in partnership with the the Metro Manila Development Authority, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Geosciences Australia.

Major earthquake faultline. 99 subdivisions at risk. Metro Manila and Southern Tagalog regions

The Valley Fault System traverses primarily in the eastern portion of Metro Manila and other provinces such as Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna that sums up to a total length of 146.71 kilometers. It traverses a densely populated area in southern Luzon piercing through over 90 private villages and subdivisions with over 6,000 buildings on top of the fault line.

The fault system is comprised of two major fault lines that are estimated to move once in every 400 years (+/- 100 years) and is capable of triggering about 7.2 magnitude of earthquake.

In 2014, we have released a list of notable barangays, villages, malls and locations within a 500-meter vicinity to the fault line through the release of our interactive map of the fault system. This article is the latest list we have for villages and residential compounds that are directly traversed by the Valley Fault System.

We have also created an article that quantifies the structures, barangays and its population directly traversed by the Valley Fault System that can be directly affected by the movement of the fault.

Below is the list of villages, subdivisions and residential compounds that are traversed directly by the Valley Fault System.

New subdivisions may not yet be included in this list so check your area in relation to the older ones listed here.

Sarah Geronimo abusing her fans with too many product endorsement FB posts

11 out of 12 most recent posts are commercials – clothing, acne medication, pain reliever (3), toothpaste (2), canned food (2), vacuum cleaner and cheese

Sarah Geronimo is a top Philippine singer, dancer and movie actress. With a successful career spanning decades, she is one of the most recognizable celebrities in the country. With a loyal fan base, she is a force to reckon with when it comes to public voting for awards.

Sarah is known as the Pop Princess and her admirers are named Popsters.

In the realm of social media, she has 15 MILLION Facebook followers. Such a huge number is used to further make her known to the people. Fans being what they are want to see, hear and feel her presence so they eagerly await every new photograph or bit of news about her forthcoming songs, concerts, movies and TV appearances.

A major disappointment, however, is that her Facebook fan page looks more like an EDSA billboard where product endorsements dominate. Of course there is nothing illegal about placing too many advertisements. It is her personal fan page and she can post whatever she wants as long as the contents comply with the rules, regulations and policies of the internet platform. The problem is that fan page posts are distributed to the page followers through their newsfeed and commercial ads are, more often than not, irritating to the readers. A consistent, persistent and continuous avalanche of ads emanating from the same fan page can get into the nerves. While the UNFOLLOW option is always there, true fans would seldom do that for fear of missing out on the latest news and developments in the life of their idol.

We are thus ventilating this observation in the hope that more content about the life and career of Sarah be given more prominent space in her own fan page. Perhaps requesting for 50% Sarah photos at home, at work or at play and 50% Sarah endorsing commercial products would not be asking too much.

Eat Bulaga War, Round 1 – GMA7 stock price, TAPE and It’s Showtime LOSE. TVJ and Dabarkads WIN.

GMA7 loses 16 BILLION pesos in market capitalization

With the parting of ways between Tito, Vic and Joey and the Jalosjos production company TAPE, the TV networks are shaking to the bones. TVJ have just found a new home in TV5 (with the Dabarkads show slated to start next month) while TAPE has continued Eat Bulaga in GMA7 with new hosts and talents.

This early, there are already winners and losers although this could be a long, protracted and bitter war so the final winners may only be known months or years from now. Be that as it may, at the moment, the viewing public and advertisers are siding with TVJ. The 44 year old brand has developed a loyal viewer following and corporations prepared to transfer where Dabarkads may finally settle down.

In this Round 1 of the Eat Bulaga War, by virtue of the tremendous public support garnered by the Originals, they come out the winners by a wide margin. Badly beaten is the TAPE corporation that just lost a CASH COW, aside from all the negative publicity that it has to deal with. Even the new hosts have been subjected to bashing and hate comments. The new Eat Bulaga talents are under severe pressure to make a name for themselves in an effort to attract an audience. As ratings fall and advertisers say goodbye, it will be a long hard climb to profitability for TAPE.

Caught in between the Dabarkads and TAPE was GMA7 that has a block time arrangement with TAPE. GMA7 claims that were not in a position to intervene in the heated discussions prior to the TVJ withdrawal from TAPE because GMA7 considered the TVJ TAPE feud as an internal matter to be settled by the two warring parties. Former Senator Tito Sotto, the T in the TVJ and the most vocal among the three, however stated that, in their perception and opinion, GMA7 sided with TAPE. The GMA7 stock price has been going down for the past few weeks. From a high of PHP 13.16 per share in March 2023 to a low of PHP 8.02 last June 6, 2023, GMA7 lost PHP 16 BILLION in market capitalization. The share price has slightly improved in the last three trading days.

It’s Showtime, the noon time show of ABS CBN broadcasting from TV5 is also a loser since it will be bumped off its slot to give way to the Dabarkads. Vice Ganda and company will still be viewed live in other platforms (YouTube) but will be on a delayed telecast basis on free TV Channel 5.

GMA7 STOCK LOST 16 BILLION PESOS FROM MARCH 2023

GMA7, the current Philippine media giant (since its main rival ABS CBN lost its franchise), is in the ropes if we base the conclusion on market capitalization. From a high of 13.08 pesos per share just a few weeks ago, the Kapamilya current market value is 27.4 BILLION pesos on a stock price of 8.02 pesos each. This means GMA7 lost 16 BILLION pesos due to a 39% drop from its recent peak.

How can the Channel 7 company of Uncle Bob RIP lose so much in such a short period of time? The economy is almost back to normal from the three years of pandemic, lockdowns, quarantines, vaccines and social distancing.

Well, one has to look at the highly public bickering among iconic talents Tito, Vic and Joey and the production company of Eat Bulaga named TAPE that has a block time agreement with GMA7. It seems that the 44 year old noontime show has had a long and successful run to the point where the TAPE owners now want to exercise greater control over the TV program. However, during the negotiations, things turned ugly as TVJ were supposed to assume reduced roles with the corresponding decrease in compensation. Aside from that most of the staff were supposed to file their resignations only to be (selectively?) rehired, again, at lower salaries and benefits. All of these were thought of to phase out the aging veterans, to introduce new (younger) talent and improve/remove/tweak segments for a better watching experience.

TVJ were generally unhappy with the private (meetings) and public statements of the second generation TAPE executives (their dad is the majority owner and chairperson of TAPE), such that Tito Sen, as in the former Senate President, took the TAPE TVJ discussions public (interviews, social media). Details of unpaid salaries to Vic and Joey were ventilated and even if these were subsequently paid, the fact that there were long overdue plus the need to shout out about the matter, did not help the cause of the TAPE management.

The viewing public overwhelmingly support the Dabarkads and are eagerly waiting for the TVJ show to start on TV5 at the same time that TAPE has continued with Eat Bulaga with new talents. As the Dabarkads pull away audience viewership and advertising revenues from the GMA7 TAPE universe, would the new Eat Bulaga break even? Or would it continue to bleed heavily? Indirectly, would GMA7 lose out too since a number of GMA7 productions are bundled with the highly rated Eat Bulaga block timer in terms of advertising packages?

Obviously, it is too early to tell if TAPE would succeed in the long run. However, the market has already spoken with the massive drop of the GMA7 stock price and it would take a long, hard struggle to achieve the financial successes of the old TVJ Eat Bulaga.

LUIS “Lucky” MANZANO case: Sapagkat siya ang Chairman of the Board, ang hindi pagiging parte ng pagpapatakbo ng isang kumpanya ay hindi ibig sabihin na abswelto ito sa kasong katiwalian.

 BY PINOYNEWS4

Luis Manzano tagged in alleged scam; denies role in managing business

By GMA Integrated News

Published February 2, 2023

Actor-host Luis Manzano is facing a complaint before the National Bureau of Investigation in connection with an alleged investment scam.

According to John Consulta’s report on “24 Oras”, Jinky Sta. Isabel and other investors filed the complaint in a bid to recover millions of pesos in investments.

She said it was Manzano’s pitch that convinced her to invest in Flex Fuel. He’s allegedly the chairman and one of the owners.

“‘Ako ito. Luis Manzano ito.’ Kaya agad-agad akong nag deposit,” Sta. Isabel said.

“Siyempre, hindi ka magda-doubt sa kanya. Siyempre, Luis Manzano, artista,” she added.

Sta. Isabel said the company had been allowed by the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell products, not solicit investments.

In a statement, Manzano said, “I never took part in the management of the business.”

He also reportedly lost millions of pesos.

Manzano’s camp said that he filed a complaint against his friend and company CEO Ildefonso Medel Jr. in November 2022 after investors approached him to recover their money. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News

EDSA, NCR Traffic: Missed Outbound Flights from NAIA

One of the worst experiences of airplane travelers is not making it to the airport on time. In Metro Manila, a major cause of this is the HORRIBLE TRAFFIC. One can never be too sure that a usual one or two hour ride could suddenly turn into a monumental jam. The causes are many (accidents, road repairs, heavy rains, flooding, potholes, rallies, etc.). It goes without saying that coming from Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela and the nearby provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales and Bataan could lull travelers into thinking that they could make it with plenty to spare but MISSED FLIGHTS have happened with alarming frequency. Coming from the south, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon may seem like a walk in the park but gridlocks happen there too. Of course EDSA is the thoroughfare to avoid if one could because peak hours or not, vehicular buildup could result into a crawl. On particularly bad days, traffic is at a standstill for many minutes if not hours.

Since the possibility of missing a flight is directly proportional to one’s starting point’s distance to the airport, then the most logical, simplest and practical solution is to stay in a hotel in the general vicinity of NAIA.
