The Presidential campaign of former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas is suffering from the perceived incompetence of the Aquino administration in stamping out the EXTORTION RACKET at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). In 2010, then Senator Benigno (Noynoy) Aquino lll campaigned on a platform of reform and good government (Tuwid na Daan – Straight Path). Five years into the Aquino Administration, major campaign promises lie in shambles as the nation continues to experience woes in Metro Manila traffic management, MRT/LRT problems and alarming criminality. If we add the Zamboanga siege mismanagement, the bungled Mamasapano police (SAF44) operation, the slow Typhoon Yolanda rehabilitation, the balikbayan box controversy and the Liberal Party playgirls, espousing to follow the footsteps of a tarnished administration is not exactly the way to go in conducting a winning presidential campaign. Be that as it may, running under the Administration ticket has its perks and prerogatives (unlimited cash and use of government resources). Anyway, here come TROUBLE in the form of the Tanim/Laglag Bala scandal (planting bullets in the bags of outbound international air travelers with the problem being settled for cash) . The airport is under the Department of Transportation and Communications (formerly headed by Mar Roxas) while many of the pinpointed corrupt officials are with the Philippine National Police (attached to the DILG, just recently vacated by Mar Roxas). t is no wonder that Administration stalwarts shout to high heavens that the series of events is just a DEMOLITION JOB to put President Aquino and the “Anointed One” (Mar Roxas) to shame. As the DOTC Secretary, NAIA general manager and airport officials point fingers or wash their hands on the matter, the public is more convinced that TANIM BALA is a mere EXTORTION SCHEME hatched to victimize airline passengers who would rather COUGH OUT CASH than suffer delays and worse. It goes without saying that the Philippine IMAGE and PUBLIC PERCEPTION is the biggest LOSER (with apologies and deep sympathy to the hapless victims).
